Stain-resistant binder

Arkema Coating Resins, a business unit of Arkema Inc., has introduced ENCOR 662 acrylic latex, a high performance all acrylic binder the company says delivers outstanding scrub and stain resistance, and washability, in low-VOC interior architectural coatings. It is targeted at higher value paint formulations, and Arkema says it is the highest performing all-acrylic product in its coating resins portfolio.

“Product developers at Arkema have been continually working on improving scrub and stain resistance,” says John Hiel, North American marketing manager. “ENCOR 662 technology is the latest result of that research. It enables coating formulators to develop flat and semi-gloss paints and coatings with extremely good washability and excellent scrub resistance properties.”

Specific properties include: easy formulation for flat to semi-gloss coatings;  excellent abrasive scrub resistance in low-VOC formulations; a balanced washability profile for both hydrophobic and hydrophilic stains; good block resistance; and compatibility in formulations using non-volatile coalescents.

This latex also meets the rigid standards of Arkema’s EnVia certification program, designed to assist formulators in meeting sustainability and regulatory goals in finished paint and coating products.  Among other characteristic, binders that meet EnVia standards are APEO-free, and have total VOC less than 5g/L.
