COLOR OF THE YEAR NAMED

AkzoNobel (Amsterdam) has released its 2018 Color of the Year, a shade it refers to as a 'grown-up' pink. The color, named Heart Wood, is a warm blushthat the company says pulls from “the tactile qualities of natural wood and leather,” and aims to create a “welcome home” atmosphere.

“As life gets faster, now is the time to press pause,” said Heleen Van Gent, creative director at AkzoNobel's Global Aesthetic Center. “Our home needs to be a place where we can turn down the noise, where we can nurture our values and recharge. Color can play a significant role in addressing the balance between outside clamor and inner calm.”

The company has released four complementary color palettes, each featuring Heart Wood. The color, the company says, combines shades of pale gray-pink, blues and browns along with bolder ink blues and purples. Pulling more from the unpredictable colors of natural wood and leather, this palette aims to be “calming and restorative.”

Van Gent adds: “Heart Wood and its four complementary color palettes will help consumers achieve a home that is truly and uniquely theirs, bringing a feeling of safety and reassurance, creating a welcome home for all."
