IT'S TIME FOR SOFTER COLORS

The time has come to re-paint your home. At least, that's according to the Paint Quality Institute and Dow Coating Materials.

Together, they've concluded that today's stressed-out workers are looking for a home environment featuring calming blue-green hues, and light, soft colors in general. Off-whites will appeal this year, for the same reason.

Green brings feelings of calm, anticipation and hope, and has a soothing, relaxing effect on the body as well as the mind," they say in a press release. "Blue is a relaxing color that can induce pleasant dreams. It has a calming effect on the body by lowering blood pressure, heart rate and respiration. It also has a cooling effect."

The release adds that "brass or gold-colored accessories complete the look for 2016. Nicely fashioned door knobs, cabinet hardware, faucets, and bric-a-brac complement the new color palette beautifully. Incorporating at least a few such items into a room adds character and style without compromising the light feel of the 2016 indoor environment."

For the past two years, according to the PQI and Dow, grey has been the most popular wall color. Deeply saturated secondary colors have been popular too, such as purple, teal or rust. But the time for change is with us.
