CFCM Archroma Logo 2022 400Archroma announced the launch of EARTH SOFT, a new softening system for textile and fashion applications based on Siligen EH1, a vegan silicone softener with 35% plant-based active content.

Siligen EH1 is the latest addition in the plant-based innovations developed by Archroma in recent years, such as EarthColors dyes and Appretan NTR binders, as alternatives offered to manufacturers and brands looking to reduce the use of fossil fuel-based ingredients without compromising performance.

The range has been developed in line with the principles of “The Archroma Way to a sustainable world: safe, efficient, enhanced, it’s our nature.” More than 35% of the Siligen EH1 softener’s active content is based on plant-based, renewable raw materials. In addition, the product features ultralow cyclic siloxanes (D4, D5, D6), which are classified by the European Chemicals Agency as “Substances of Very High Concern” due to their very persistent and bioaccumulative properties.

Siligen EH1 is ideally suited for shirts, underwear, sportswear, towels, bedsheets, etc. It provides wearing comfort by supporting moisture transportation and delivering a smooth and soft touch.

The new softener and the EARTH SOFT system, including a Hydroperm wicking agent to boost hydrophilic properties on synthetic and blended fibres, can be applied to all-natural and synthetic textile fibres.

Siligen EH1 is suitable for both woven and knitted articles. The padding process and exhaust process can be applied as it shows shear stability and a low foaming profile. It can be used on white articles and those treated with optical brighteners, as it doesn’t cause thermomigration or phenolic yellowing.

Paul Cowell, Head of Competence Centers for Brand & Performance Textile Specialties at Archroma, comments: “The new EARTH SOFT system based on Siligen EH1 softener adds to our growing portfolio of innovations based on natural and renewable plant-based resources. This innovation by Archroma helps us and our partners in the textile and fashion industry to minimize our dependence on petroleum fossil fuel products.”

CFCM slingpsychrometer 400Paul N. Gardner USA, global distributors, producers, and designers of quality physical and inspection instruments for the paint, coatings, and related industries, has introduced a new offering: The compact, portable Sling Psychrometer.

As an easy way to measure relative humidity levels quickly, this uniquely compact Bacharach Sling Psychrometer accurately determines per cent relative humidity without the necessity of consulting complex tables. There is no need to wet the wick each time a reading is taken, and it contains a slide rule calculator which correlates wet and dry bulb thermometer indications for direct reading of relative humidity. When not in use, the thermometer case telescopes into the handle for protection.

The Sling Psychrometer consists of two thermometers that are turned by vigorously swinging the handle and exposing the thermometers to rapid air movement. These two thermometers are called dry bulb and wet bulb. The bulb of one thermometer is placed in direct contact with the room air to measure dry-bulb air temperature. The bulb of the other thermometer is covered with a silk or muslin sleeve that is kept moist to record the wet bulb temperature. Evaporation cools the wet bulb more than the dry bulb, and the humidity is obtained as a function of change in temperature. The atmospheric humidity is determined by calculations, steam tables, or using a psychrometric chart. Gardco.com
