Sherwin Hosts Tech ClassAssets and personnel operating in the energy industry face significant risks related to corrosion, fire and heat. Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine addressed each of these threats and a variety of advanced solutions to combat them during the company’s first-ever U.S.-based customer seminar focused on protective coatings for energy industry assets.

Sherwin-Williams hosted the two-day “CUI Mitigation to Elimination” seminar May 24-25, 2023, in Houston, Texas, following the International Liquid Terminals Association’s (ILTA) 2023 International Annual Operating Conference and Trade Show. More than 60 customers attended to review the latest advances in protective coating technologies for corrosion under insulation (CUI), passive fire protection (PFP) and thermal insulation.

“Corrosion, fire and heat represent significant threats to the safety, efficiency and overall productivity of energy exploration, production and distribution operations. Lives, facilities and profits may be in danger if these threats aren’t appropriately mitigated,” said Mark Rubio, energy business manager, Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine. “Informing an engaged base of energy industry professionals was an opportune way to bring these important stakeholders up to speed on the latest solutions designed to keep facilities and operations running smoothly for the long-haul.”

Among the various solutions covered, seminar participants learned how to mitigate the dangerous condition of CUI using the company’s new line of Heat-Flex CUI-mitigation coatings. Those products include Heat-Flex ACE (Advanced CUI Epoxy), which is an ultra-high-solids epoxy novolac that performs the best at mitigating CUI out of any other formulation available, as well as three coatings featuring a high concentration of micaceous iron oxide (MIO) pigment that deliver significantly improved CUI-mitigation performance compared to similar formulations.

In addition, attendees had the chance to spray each type of coating technology, giving them direct, hands-on experience with CUI coatings, PFP materials and thermal insulative coatings (TICs).

Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine plans to host a second energy industry technical seminar later in 2023. Individuals or groups interested in receiving additional information should contact the Company here.
