MicrobanMicroban International has announced its participation in this year’s Foam Expo North America, taking place June 28 & 30. The global producer of antimicrobial treatments will have a dedicated booth on the expo floor, where it will showcase its various solutions for foam products, demonstrating how far these technologies have come since their inception, with older formulations giving way to a newer generation of more environmentally friendly additives. Microban offers built-in antimicrobials and odour control solutions, and a portfolio of technologies that can be effectively incorporated into a variety of foam-based materials. These solutions are already being employed by manufacturers in the healthcare, consumer, and commercial sectors to develop products with inherent protection against the growth of stain and odor-causing microbes.

On the first day of the expo, Microban will host a presentation on how its technologies for foam can result in cleaner and fresher conditions, focusing on automotive interiors. Unwanted bacterial and fungal growth in humid and hot environments can wreak havoc on everyday surfaces, and automobiles are no exception—80 per cent of consumers express concerns about stains, persistent odours, and rapid mold growth inside of personal and public vehicles. The presentation will be given by Microban’s Senior Product Development Engineer, Dr. Mai Ha, who said, “I’m thrilled to be attending this year’s Foam Expo, and proud to be presenting applications of our innovative Microban antimicrobial additives in automotive interiors.”

CFCM slingpsychrometer 400Paul N. Gardner USA, global distributors, producers, and designers of quality physical and inspection instruments for the paint, coatings, and related industries, has introduced a new offering: The compact, portable Sling Psychrometer.

As an easy way to measure relative humidity levels quickly, this uniquely compact Bacharach Sling Psychrometer accurately determines per cent relative humidity without the necessity of consulting complex tables. There is no need to wet the wick each time a reading is taken, and it contains a slide rule calculator which correlates wet and dry bulb thermometer indications for direct reading of relative humidity. When not in use, the thermometer case telescopes into the handle for protection.

The Sling Psychrometer consists of two thermometers that are turned by vigorously swinging the handle and exposing the thermometers to rapid air movement. These two thermometers are called dry bulb and wet bulb. The bulb of one thermometer is placed in direct contact with the room air to measure dry-bulb air temperature. The bulb of the other thermometer is covered with a silk or muslin sleeve that is kept moist to record the wet bulb temperature. Evaporation cools the wet bulb more than the dry bulb, and the humidity is obtained as a function of change in temperature. The atmospheric humidity is determined by calculations, steam tables, or using a psychrometric chart. Gardco.com
